The Youth Challenge Men’s Program consists of three
phases: Induction, Training, and Re-Entry.
A. Induction Phase 4-5 months
1. Each student attends classes every day on applying Biblical principles to everyday life. Our curriculum is a 14 course study which includes courses on Attitudes, Temptation, Successful Christian Living, Growing through Failure, Christian Practices, Anger and Personal Rights, Love and Accepting Myself, Personal Relationships, and others.
2. Each student receives counseling both individual and group. Group sessions are three times a week, and individual sessions are once a week and by student request as needed.
3. Everyone participates in daily work details. In addition to daily maintenance of our facilities, the students work at our Thrift Store, Auto Shop, Moving company, landscape detail, and perform small home repairs and construction projects. These work details teach work ethic and provide applicable vocational training.
B. Training Phase 10 months
1. Upon completion of the induction phase, students travel to the National Teen Challenge Training Center in Rehrersburg, PA, for the training phase of the program.
2. Students receive continued Biblical teaching as well as GED preparation and testing.
3. Weekly group and individual counseling are conducted, including 12 step work based on Biblical scripture.
4. Vocational training continues in Greenhouse, Landscaping, Janitorial, Kitchen work, Auto Shop, Carpentry, Electrical, and SYSCO warehouse.
C. Re-Entry Phase 3 months
Upon completion of the training phase students return to
Newport News to enter our “re-entry” program. These
students are provided with housing and assistance in finding
employment. There are required curfews, and weekly group
sessions. This gives graduates an opportunity to get back on
their feet, and maintain accountability during this “tender”
time in their recovery.
